¶ This passeth yere by yere and day by day
Til yt fil ones in a morwe of may
That Emely that fairer was to sene
Than is the lilye vp on his stalke grene
And fressher than the may wt floures newe

Er it were day as was hir won to do.
She was arysen and al redy dyght
For may wol haue no slogardye a nyght

The seson pikketh euery gentil hert
And maketh him oute of his sleep to stert
And seith aryse and do thin obseruaunce
This maked Emelye haue remembraunce
To doon honour to may and for to ryse

I clothed was she fressh for to deuyse.
Here yolew heer was broyded in a tresse
By hynde hir backe a yerd longe I gesse
And in the gardyn at the Son vprist
She walketh vp and doun and as hir list

To make a subtil garlond for hir hede
And as an angel heuenysshely she song
The grete toure that was so thik and stronge
Which of the Castel was the chief dongeoun

Ther as this Emely hed hir pleyinge
