This is to seye the swerd and the mirour
And born anon in to the hie tour
Wyth certeyn officers ordeynde therfore

But Sykerly wyth owten any fable
The hors of bras that may nat be remewed
Itstant as it were to the ground ygluwed

For non engyne of wyndas or polyue
And cause whi for thei kan nat the craft
And therfore in the place thei han it laft
Til that the knyght hath taght hem the manere

¶ Gret was the prees that swarmeth to and fro
To gawren on this hors that stondeth so
For it so hie was and so brood and longe
So wel proporcioned for to be stronge

Ryght as it were a steed of lumbardye
That wyth so horsly and so quyk an ye
As it a gentil poleys courser were
For certes fro his tayle vnto his yere
Nature ne art ne koude hir nat amende

It was a fairye as the peple semede
Dyuerse folk dyuersly han demede

Thei mormerede as don a swarme of ben

Rehersyng of thise olde poetries
And seiden it was like the pegasee
