That I was born ful ofte he seyde allas

That art so pale & dedly on to se

Whi cryestow who hath the don offense
Oure prysoū for it may non oþer be
Sū wekede aspect or disposicioun

Of saturne by sū constolacioū
Hath ȝouyn vs þis al þow we hadde it sworn
So stod the heuene whan that we wer born
We muste endure it þis is the schorte & pleyn
This Palamoun onswerde & seyde a geyn

In to myn herte that wele myn bane be

Is cause of al myn cryinge & myn wo
I newot wheþer sche be woman or godesse
But venë it is sothly as I gesse

Yow in this gardyn thus to transfigure
Be for me sorweful wreche cryature
Out of this prysoū help þt we may skape
